03/04/2010March 27-28 -- AZ ATV Rider Volunteers Needed for AZ Game
#2559March 27-28 -- AZ ATV Riders club volunteers needed for AZ Game & Fish Outdoor Expo

Looking for a Good Time? How about volunteering your time to promote our ATV club to over 30,000 people attending the AZ Game & Fish Outdoor Expo? There are only a few public relation events of this magnitude during the year. Come for a day, a few hours, or the whole weekend!

We would like to have some members help out at the AZOHVC booth where you get to meet and greet the public, hand out club information and answer questions about our ATV club and ATV/UTV riding. Bring your ATV and UTV and try your hand at the OHV obstacle course. We will be putting on live demonstrations of rock crawling and trail riding 10-15 minutes each hour during the day with other 4x4 / OHV clubs. The OHV obstacle course will be toned down from last year to promote safe responsible ATV / UTV riding.

After working the booth or obstacle course, take in the sights with the many exhibits and activities. This crowd-pleasing event offers dozens of exciting, hands-on outdoor recreational activities:

• Lots of kids activities including huge catch-and-release fishing tank; archery instruction; target shooting and ATV/OHV obstacle course demonstrations.
• See live wildlife demonstrations (hawks, owls, reptiles, snakes, and more);
• Hike a nature trail/field course;
• Try target shooting with different firearms on the range;
• Attend workshops on wildlife conservation, hunting, fishing, shooting, and outdoor sports.
• View exciting shooting demonstrations by the cowboy mounted shooters, cowboy action shooters and more;
• See off-highway vehicle and boating exhibits;
• Visit more than 100 exhibitors— sportsmen’s organizations, conservation groups, shooting clubs, wildlife agencies, and commercial vendors and exhibitors of outdoor products and services.

Where: Ben Avery Shooting Facility, 4044 W. Black Canyon Blvd., Phoenix. To get to the Expo, take I-17 to Carefree Highway (Exit 223). Go west ½ mile on Carefree Highway and follow the signs.

Admission and parking are FREE – bring a little money for food and beverages, or for the nominal ammunition fee if you want to try out firearms on the range.

Bring a chair and have a good time promoting our club’s activities. There is a RV campground with full hookups for exhibitors but advance coordination must be made with the Expo officials. I have asked for 6 free camping spaces for our member volunteers. You will need to reserve your campsite right away. They would need to know the make, model, year and plate off the vehicles and how many spots are needed. First Come – First Serve basis! There are other fee-based campsites that you can reserve through the Ben Avery Shooting Facility based on their availability. There is a large turnout with other organizations for this event. They do not want our vehicles being ridden/driven in the exhibition area (except within the obstacle course) during the public hours of the Expo so prepare to bring your ATV or UTV for the whole day. Recovery vehicles will be parked offsite. For people not bringing their quads, free parking is provided and there is trolley service to/from the parking lot and the exhibit areas.

If you are interested in riding your ATV or UTV on the OHV obstacle course, contact Bob Maitzen at Bob.Maitzen@avnet.com . If you are interested in volunteering at the booth, contact Bob for the available time slots.

Saturday 8:30-12:00; 11:45-3:00; 2:45-6:15
Sunday 8:30-11:30; 11:15-2:00; 1:45-4:30

Let’s have a good member turnout of ATVs and UTVs for this event! It’s great PR for our club and will increase our membership drive efforts and promote safe responsible trail riding!

Additional Volunteers Needed: I need an announcer or two to talk about our club, our vehicles, and ATV safety during the obstacle course demos. I also need a volunteer or two to go out there on Wednesday, March 24 to give advice on the construction building of the OHV obstacle course. I also need a volunteer to put together some poster boards of photos that we can set up in the booth and obstacle course areas. Anyone want to volunteer putting on a winch demo during our obstacle course time slots and pull a quad up a 15’ hill or over berms?
